As we continue to celebrate our seniors, today’s spotlight is on Charlie Mohler. Wearing the #17 jersey, Charlie has dedicated 14 years to the sport he loves, bringing commitment, leadership, and a strong competitive spirit to the Greater Latrobe Soccer program. A well-rounded student-athlete, Charlie’s contributions both on and off the field have left a lasting impact on his teammates, coaches, and school community.
A Passion for Soccer and Leadership
Charlie’s soccer journey began at a young age, and over the years, he has honed his skills, developed as a leader, and embraced the camaraderie of the sport. He has played at a highly competitive level as a member of the Riverhounds East Academy 07 team, in addition to being a varsity letterman for the Greater Latrobe soccer team.
One of his most memorable moments came during his junior year, when he was part of the team that secured a thrilling victory against Penn-Trafford on the road. That game showcased his team’s resilience, skill, and determination, and will always stand out as one of the highlights of his soccer career.
Charlie’s dedication to the game extends beyond playing, as he has served as a mentor to younger players on the JV team, helping them develop their skills and adjust to the demands of high school soccer. Additionally, his experience as a certified soccer referee for Loyalhanna United Soccer Club has given him a unique perspective on the game, reinforcing his ability to make quick, strategic decisions under pressure.
Beyond the Soccer Field: A Scholar and Competitor
Charlie’s commitment to excellence is evident in his academic achievements. He is a proud member of National Honor Society, German National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, German Club, Chess Club, Quiz League, and the Track & Field team. His passion for problem-solving and analytical thinking is evident not only in the classroom but also in his chess competitions and quiz league performances.
Charlie is a natural competitor, whether he is running long-distance for track, competing in quiz league, or strategizing in a chess match. His ability to balance academic, athletic, and extracurricular commitments showcases his strong work ethic and time-management skills.
A Love for Science, Exploration, and Aquariums
Charlie has a deep appreciation for science and technology, which has led him to pursue a future in computer science. He hopes to attend a four-year university where he will continue to challenge himself academically and ultimately build a career as a computer programmer.
In addition to his academic and athletic pursuits, Charlie is passionate about aquariums, a hobby that he was introduced to by his grandfather. Over the years, he has built and maintained a 29-gallon fish tank in his bedroom and helps care for aquariums at both his family’s business and his grandmother’s home. His dedication to the hobby reflects his patience, curiosity, and attention to detail, traits that will undoubtedly serve him well in his future career.
Charlie also enjoys kayaking, traveling, and playing video games with friends, often staying up late during the summer to enjoy games like Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and Pokémon. His curiosity and adventurous spirit extend to his love for Liverpool FC, where he follows and admires some of the best soccer players in the world.
Words of Thanks
“I want to thank my parents for everything they’ve done, my family for always being the best, my friends for making school fun, and my teammates for making my years of soccer enjoyable.”
Charlie’s appreciation for those who have supported him along the way highlights his gratitude and strong sense of community.
