Off-season soccer is where good players become great—and great players become leaders. Without the pressure of weekly games, the summer is the best time to reset, refocus, and grow. But to make it count, you need a plan. That’s why we created this simple, effective checklist for both players and parents.
1. Stay Active with Purpose
Daily movement is key. Whether it’s juggling in the yard, backyard pickup, or structured training, aim to get touches every day. Not sure where to start? We recommend two great, free YouTube channels: 7MLC and Become Elite with Matt Sheldon. Both offer position-specific drills, tips, and conditioning workouts ideal for youth players.
2. Work on Weaknesses
Now is the time to be honest with yourself. What held you back last season? Your left foot? First touch? Confidence? Set 1–2 goals and track them weekly. Even 20 minutes a day adds up over the summer.
3. Attend a Camp or Clinic
Nothing replaces live play under pressure. Whether you’re heading to CalU or attending an ID clinic, team camps give you reps and exposure. See what’s happening locally on our Camps & Clinics page.
4. Prioritize Rest and Recovery
Rest is training too. Prioritize sleep, hydrate, eat well, and give your body what it needs. Active recovery—like yoga or a walk after training—can do wonders for your performance and health.
5. Reflect on Last Season
Use this time to review: What were your wins? What challenged you? What do you want from this fall? Parents: spark these conversations. Help your player reflect without pressure.
6. Update Your Highlights
If you’re a high school player thinking about recruitment, now is a great time to trim your highlight reel. Not sure what to include? Stay tuned—our July 24 blog covers this in detail.
7. Support Your Teammates
Summer’s better with support. Hit the field with a teammate, challenge each other, and share progress. Accountability matters—because fall success starts now.
Off-season soccer isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing what matters most.
Follow the checklist. Stay focused. Let’s get better together. 🧡⚽
