For four years, Stone Brunton has worn the orange and black with pride, growing from a young player into a respected senior and one of the Wildcats’ 2025 captains. Known by his teammates as “MGS,” Stone’s presence on the field is defined not only by his skill, but by his leadership and determination.

Looking Back on His Wildcat Career

When asked what he looks forward to most this season, Stone keeps it simple: “playing soccer with my friends.” That perspective underscores what makes him such a steady captain—his commitment to those around him. His goals for the year reflect that same mentality: to “be a good teammate and leader.” Among his favorite memories is winning the section title with the Wildcats, but he points to last year’s home game against Franklin Regional as his most unforgettable experience. A hard-fought match that pushed the team into overtime, it was a coach’s speech during the break that he remembers as one of the most inspiring moments of his career.

Discipline and Inspiration

Soccer has taught Stone plenty, but the lesson that sticks with him most is the value of leadership and hard work. His discipline comes through in the way he prepares—choosing silence before a game to lock in and focus. When it comes to motivation, he doesn’t look for shortcuts. Inspired by David Goggins, the ultramarathoner and retired Navy SEAL who preaches mental toughness, Stone lives by the words: “You don’t need motivation. You need discipline.” It’s a motto that matches the way he plays, leads, and lives.

Beyond the Field

Outside of soccer, Stone is also a standout in lacrosse, and when he’s off the field, you’ll often find him lifting, fishing, or boating. His favorites reveal his love for challenge and grit: Saving Private Ryan tops his movie list, Peaky Blinders is his show of choice, and his pre-game soundtrack is pure energy with AC/DC blasting through the speakers. Steak is his go-to meal, Montana his dream vacation, and few know that he can even play the drums.

The Road Ahead

Looking ahead, Stone has his eyes on the future. His next step is the United States Naval Academy, where he plans to pursue his dream of becoming a Navy SEAL. It’s a path built on the same foundation of discipline and resilience that has carried him through his high school career.

Advice for the Next Generation

As he reflects on his time as a Wildcat, Stone offers advice for those who will follow in his footsteps: “Whether you have very much talent or very little talent, always remember to work hard and be a good teammate.” To the underclassmen, he adds a reminder: “Enjoy high school sports while you can.”
