Nelson Rieffannacht hopes players carry the lessons of hard work, integrity, and teamwork with them long after they leave the soccer field. From coaching at Loyalhanna United Soccer Club to serving as an assistant coach with Latrobe’s junior high program, Coach Nelson’s involvement has centered on giving young players the opportunity to play, improve, and support one another.

Stepping Up for the Players
Nelson’s introduction to coaching came from a practical need: there weren’t enough coaches available. He didn’t want to see teams miss the chance to play, so he stepped up to help.
That willingness to get involved also brought him to Latrobe. His son Judah played for the junior high team, creating a connection to the program and an opportunity to contribute as an assistant coach.
For many of the players, Nelson was already a familiar face. He had coached a number of them during their time at Loyalhanna United Soccer Club, where he has served as vice president for the past four years. His involvement with both programs has allowed him to work with players at different stages of their soccer development.
Growing Together as a Team
When working with players, Nelson places the greatest emphasis on continued growth. He wants them to challenge themselves, keep improving, and help their teammates develop along the way.
That approach extends beyond soccer skills. His hope is that players leave their time with him understanding that hard work and integrity can take them places in life. Whether they are competing on the field or facing challenges elsewhere, those are the values he wants them to remember.
One saying he regularly shares with his teams brings that philosophy into focus:
“We win with integrity and we lose with integrity.”
It’s a reminder that how players conduct themselves matters in every result—and that integrity belongs in both the celebrations and the disappointments that come with the game.
A Favorite Coaching Memory
When asked about a favorite moment from his coaching experience, Nelson pointed to his U12 team winning its division. That achievement stands out as a memorable part of his time working with young players.
Beyond the Soccer Field
Outside of coaching, Nelson works as a stagehand, handling video or audio for shows. His work takes him behind the scenes, helping bring those productions to life.
Sports remain a big part of his family life, too. When he isn’t coaching or working, he can often be found at one of his kids’ sporting events, supporting them from the sidelines.
Thank you, Coach Nelson, for stepping up for young players and sharing the importance of hard work, teamwork, and integrity with our soccer community! 🧡🖤
