Head Coach

Scott Shaffer

Experience: Scott returns to the Wildcats as Head Coach, bringing a strong blend of leadership, experience, and deep ties to the Greater Latrobe soccer community. Most recently, Scott served as Head Boys Soccer Coach at Derry Area, and prior to that was an Assistant Coach for Greater Latrobe Boys Soccer under long-time head coach Tom Kennedy. His familiarity with the program and its traditions provides a strong foundation as he steps into this leadership role.

In addition to his high school coaching experience, Scott is the President and a Staff Coach at Loyalhanna United Soccer Club, where he has been instrumental in developing players across multiple age groups and fostering long-term growth within the game.

Philosophy: Coach Shaffer is committed to building a program culture where players feel valued, challenged, and motivated to excel. He emphasizes accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement, with a focus on developing both strong soccer players and strong young men.

Background: Scott holds a USSF D License and is dedicated to advancing soccer throughout the local community. He resides in Unity Township with his wife Carrie—affectionately known as “Mrs. Coach”—and their three children. Their oldest son, Jacob, is a former Wildcat soccer player and is currently in his second year at Bucknell University, where he is studying Chemical Engineering.

Middle School COACH (7th & 8th Grade)

Dylan Zupanc

Experience: A 2018 graduate of Greater Latrobe, Coach Zupanc was a two-year letter winner and two-time Team MVP under Coach Tom Kennedy. As a proud member of the Latrobe Boys Soccer coaching staff, he brings both playing and coaching experience to support the development of young Wildcats. He also competed with Loyalhanna United Soccer Club and Barbarian FC Futsal, appearing in multiple regional and national tournaments. Dylan played four years at California University of Pennsylvania, making 18 appearances while earning multiple academic honors. Most recently, he served as assistant coach for the Greensburg Central Catholic boys soccer team, helping guide them to a playoff appearance in 2023.

Philosophy: Coach Zupanc’s coaching style is rooted in discipline, technical development, and a growth mindset. He focuses on building confident, skilled, and tactically aware players while emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and love for the game.

Background: In addition to coaching, Dylan remains active as a competitive player in the Pittsburgh soccer community. He works as a financial representative with WoodmenLife and enjoys snowboarding, golf, and supporting Arsenal FC—his favorite team for over a decade.
