September 5th is International Day of Charity, a day established by the United Nations to encourage giving and community action around the world. It’s a reminder that each of us has the power to support causes that matter, from local initiatives to global movements.

On this day of recognition, the Greater Latrobe Boys Soccer program is proud to announce our October initiative: Latrobe Soccer Go Pink for the Cure 2025. This season, the Wildcats will unite with our community in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, raising funds for Susan G. Komen, honoring survivors, and remembering loved ones.

What is Go Pink for the Cure?

Go Pink for the Cure is Susan G. Komen’s official fundraising program for schools and sports teams. It encourages healthy living, breast cancer awareness, and community action. Schools across the country organize Go Pink games to increase attendance, showcase school pride, honor survivors, and generate funds for lifesaving breast cancer research and support programs .

Why We Launch on September 5

By announcing our initiative on International Day of Charity, we connect our season with a global movement of giving and solidarity. Just as this day calls people everywhere to take action, the Wildcats are stepping forward to make a difference in our own community. It’s the perfect moment to commit to a cause that extends far beyond the soccer field.

Latrobe Soccer Go Pink Events

• Senior Night–Thursday, October 9th: All ticket sales from this home game will be donated to the Susan G. Komen fund.
• Final Home Pink-Out – Saturday, October 11th: Fans are encouraged to wear pink and pack the stands. We’ll celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and honor families touched by breast cancer.

Why Breast Cancer Awareness Matters

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world, affecting more than 2.3 million women globally every year. In the United States, one in eight women will be diagnosed in her lifetime. But it’s not only women who are at risk—men can also develop breast cancer. Though less common, about one in 833 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime. For a boys soccer program, this fact underscores that breast cancer touches everyone—teammates, parents, siblings, coaches, and community members alike.

By supporting organizations like Susan G. Komen, we stand together for all who face this disease. From research to patient care, awareness campaigns to survivor support, every effort moves us closer to a world without breast cancer.
